Just shy of Totality 2017
August 21, 2017While people around the country flocked to the path of totality over the weekend for todays’ solar eclipse. Most chose to stay home and take their chances with whatever might happen in the sky.
Here in Portland, Maine, with the aid of a federal grant allocating special pairs of eclipse sunglasses to libraries around the country, people began lining up in anticipation of getting a pair of glasses far before the eclipse was slated to start. With hundreds of people and only 75 glasses to pass around. People shared their frames with neighbors as well as brought their own viewers, cereal boxes, and various pinhole contraptions to get a better view of a once in a lifetime event.
See you again in 2024!
